Quercetin is a flavonoid present in many fruits and vegetables. Due to its antioxidant and other properties, it has a variety of health benefits. As well as it’s antihistamine properties, which may be helpful for the respiratory tract, especially during times of allergy or hay fever symptoms. Quercetin also has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects which might help reduce inflammation.
Benefits
- Nettle, bromelain and turmeric also provide anti-inflammatory support.
- Nettle leaf – evidence suggests that freeze dried nettle leaf may help support healthy inflammatory response to environmental allergens, especially in the respiratory tissue. In addition to the rich flavonoid content, the content of naturally-occurring neurotransmitters (such as histomine) in the freeze dried version are thought to exert a paradoxical inhibitory effect on respiratory tissue inflammation.
- Turmeric Root – The traditional use of turmeric in maintaining a healthy respiratory response to allergens seems to be supported by research suggesting a powerful inhibition of certain inflammatory chemicals associated with allergies.
- Elderfower – The content of anti-inflammatory flavonoids and a possible beneficial effect on bronchial secretions seems to warrant the use of elderflower to support the respiratory tract against allergens.
